Tonite was the first Pursuit night of the year! A small group of us did 3K
efforts to begin the year. Marty rode against Mike Chandler, who's got a
lot of experience in this event, and was nudged out by 7 seconds. Mike got
a big lead on Marty, which he closed a great deal, but in the end Mike
successfully kept the pressure on.

My own effort was against Marcus, and i strategized carefully for this.
First, after racing him on Thursday, i know he's strong, but i'm stronger..
Second, he hasn't really done pursuits, so will likely go out too hard....

....and he did. Time for a little fun. =P

It's a cold, very windy night at the track, and in warm-up i felt that
~37kph took a bit of effort to hold, so i new i ought not to try to hold
much more than this.. I got myself up to 42kph, and settled in for a few
laps. I look over, and Marcus has gone out really hard, and is about 25
meters ahead of me....i nearly break out laughing -- he's SO dead. =)

He continues to hold a large gap over the next few laps, i'm holding 40kph,
and feeling very good, it's not chore at all to hold this pace. Three laps
(1km) to go, i've been gaining ground each lap, tho he's still about 15m
ahead. I figure he's got to be suffering awfully at this point, and it's
time to sharpen the knives, so to speak.

2 laps left, i start to gun it. I cut the distance in half. 1 lap -- we're
about even. Final lap, i'm flying and i cross the line 2 seconds and a few
meters ahead of him....perfect. =)

He must have wondered where in the world i came from. ;) Time for me was a
dreadful 4'31, i can do the 3km in about 4min flat, but conditions were
*awful*, it was my first time in aero bars in 8mos, and my main goal was to
mess with Marcus.
