Dave Needs to Learn Control to Pursuit Properly
It was pursuit night last Monday at the track, i had it all planned out for myself -- get up to and hold 43kph. That's all i had to do, and i'd get a solid time. This was after careful consideration of the weather conditions and my fitness. That would get me a time in the mid 5:30's, which would be fine for this time of the year.
Did i listen to myself? Nope.
I started off, and by the time i sat, i saw i was going 45kph.
No prob, i thought, i just kept my legs spinning, no pressure.
A lap later, still at 45kph, and it's feeling very easy. I begin to question my original assessment, since i'm holding 45kph without any effort.
A couple laps later (out of 12, it's a 4km effort) i'm still holding it, though it's starting to be work...
By lap 6, it's becoming a major drain to hold, and i start sinking... A couple laps later i'm down to 42..another lap, i'm barely holding 41kph....bleh.
I dig deep and pick it up a bit more, i'm breathing hard and my legs are strained, and try to keep it above 40kph..harsh!
I finish with a 5:43. Crap.
This was exactly what i did at the Provincial track championships last year, and spoiled a perfectly good opportunity to get a PB.
Ahh well, hopefully my lesson is learned THIS TIME!! =)
Emile put in a really solid effort, finishing with a 5'27.
There's a Points race on Thursday, then off to Burnaby for some serious track racing, with Emile as my Madison partner, should be a hoot!
